Lily and Carolyn’s story began the way many modern romances do: with a swipe on Bumble. At the time, Lily was living on Long Island and Carolyn in Harlem, which meant the first nine months of their relationship were spent heroically braving what they called “long distance” (read: the LIRR schedule and a couple of tolls). They spent the following year and a half traveling, seeing Broadway shows, and finding excuses to eat their way through new places. They’ve visited friends and family and explored destinations such as Spain, France, Maine, Michigan, Ohio, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina, Upstate New York, and Colorado—making memories and collecting stories along the way.
Their engagement story is fitting for two people who love intention and romance. Carolyn proposed first, at a Long Island beach where they had one of their early dates, creating a full-circle moment. The next week, while traveling in Spain, Lily proposed in the bonsai garden at the Madrid Botanical Garden—because they needed two "yeses." Even Frieda (their bestest Parakeet) said "yes!" to her moms tying the knot.
When they’re not traveling, you can find Lily teaching golf at Five Iron or Carolyn managing events at The New York Times and wrangling spreadsheets at ArtsPool. They can’t wait to celebrate their wedding with all of you, and to see what adventures the future holds—ideally with plenty of Broadway tickets, a fluffy sidekick, and a few straight golf balls along the way.
